I first heard Dr. Edwards Deming speak during his four-day seminar in December of after being exposed to his teachings through an earlier seminar on statistical process control SPC.

I spent the seminar listening to this "grand master" for four days and adding the "seven deadly diseases" to my knowledge base. My interest in this "man who discovered quality" has continued.

My autographed copy of his book, Quality, Productivity, and Competitive Position, is the prize of my book collection. Deming is right in his theories. However, when it comes to implementing his theories and in some instances, understanding his theories"there is no instant pudding.

Deming spent years developing a theory for helping companies move forward into the twenty-first century. Remarkably, it all still applies today. Deming begins with understanding his "system of profound knowledge.
